VENETIAN PIGMENT CHROMATOGRAPHY LABORATORY
Constructing a celebratory space through exploration of Venetian colours and the connections and influences of Venice (the West) and Istanbul (the East) on architecture. This project articulates the colours of Venice through digital design methodology that is driven by the poetic history of Venice and constructing pigment scientific investigation laboratory and sculpting the process of making ink inside the existing Campanile of Venice. St Marks Square is full of exuberance, opulence, sculpture, and colour; the landmark of Venice also required these astonishing architectural elements. The architectural design is elaborated through exploration in Venetian patterns, ornamentations and the influences of domes that links both Venice and the East while also creating functional spaces that also provide a sublime spatiality in contemporary context.

The Frame House, by Omar Ghazal : socks-studio

“The Frame House is a reimagining of the Scouts’ contribution to the Festival of Britain. In celebrating of the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain, The Frame House proposes the reconstruction of a temporary park to demonstrate the ideals and benefits of Scouting to the nation. The Frame House thus sets out to provide a contemporary demonstration of the central principles of scouting in structures that allegorically engage with this historical event at the same time as presenting a vision of how architecture for children can realise the Scouts’ ideals.”

SOUTHWARK FARMHOUSE MASTERPLAN

New public toilets will be installed all around the borough to generate energy from the biodigesters. The most popular toilets will then cause new farmhouses to grow as communities begin to grow around the biodigesters.

A new congestion zone will be implemented around the Southwark borough where no petrol producing cars will be allowed through the gates, The congestion zone will be managed by green policemen who will be housed in small elevated police stations dotted around the borough.

London boroughs now have the duty, under section 40 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act, to have regard for biodiversity. Currently parks and open spaces account for 12% of Southwark’s overall land use with 32 parks, this project will seek to increase this to at least 90% leaving only the transport roads free. New planning laws will be implemented in the borough where all new roofs, balconies and walls will need to be used to grow a certain quantity of vegetables or provide  garden space.

These are works that talk about the promiscuity of genres and typologies, the closeness between the monumental and the monstrous, the anomalous attraction, scale as an aberration, representation as a trap and function as a nightmare.”

Highlines of New York; Chelsea School of Aerial Arts by Adam Shapland via The Funambulist

The project seeks to explore an architecture that is responsive to the analytical exploration of narratives formulated through extractions of dynamic characteristics in an individual. The tightrope engages with a conventionally hidden or unseen landscape of the City, temporarily removing the user and viewer from spectacles of the ‘everyday’ and entering them into territories of fragile existence. The scheme exists as an academy for tightrope walkers and aerial artists with the intension to address the notion that architecture should be activated and defined by the events that happen within, around and on it.

Little homes by Make Do & Draw

Make Do & Draw is a product of the current economic climate which prompted us to make do, use our skills and direct our energy into making, doing and drawing. We mediate the boundary between art and architecture. We intend to contribute our particular strengths of imagination and technical expertise to better our local environment and do so with an optimistic approach. We work on a variety of time-scales, from the temporal to the permanent, from a fleeting artistic intervention, through to a building that will last for hundreds of years. Our studio moves from the kitchen table to the street market to the building site.

The East London Terrace is our major theme and design beacon, through which we will learn about the past, stare in the face of the present and look into the future. We draw attention to East London local society through theatrical events in architectural interventions which house dramatic presentations of East London history and local stories. We want to catch the attention of local people and attract curiosity from visitors to the area.
